Level 2 Walking Training, Assessment and Leisure Walking Weekend

Date:  23 - 25 September 2022
Venue:  Broadleas Training Centre, Haytor, Dartmoor.

Level 2 Training Course:  fee £100
Level 2 Assessment Course:  fee £100
Leisure Walking Weekend:  fee £75

Venue

We will be staying at Broadleas Training Centre, Haytor on Dartmoor.

The Centre is close to Haytor Rocks on the eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park, approximately 3 miles from Bovey Tracey.

Approved Level 2 Training Course

The Level 2 training course is aimed at members over 18 wishing to extend their existing walking skills, to learn how to lead groups safely in open country, and work towards gaining a Girlguiding walking qualification. The course will include both theory and practical outdoor sessions on:

• Clothing and Equipment
• Route Planning
• Navigation (including night navigation)
• Leadership Responsibilities and Group Management
• Hazards and Weather
• Emergency Procedures
• Access and Conservation

The Course fee is £100 to cover food, accommodation and training.  Members of Girlguiding South West England have the opportunity to apply for a leadership and training grant towards the cost of this course.  Note that a minimum number is required for the course to run.

Approved Level 2 Assessment Course

The Level 2 assessment course is aimed at members over 18 who have:

• Already attended at least one approved Level 2 training course
• Completed the Level 2 training to their satisfaction
• Completed (or very nearly) the required Logbook walks
• The confidence to lead a group in Open country

Participants will be assessed on all aspects of the Level 2 training.

The Course fee is £100 to cover food, accommodation and assessment.  Members of Girlguiding South West England have the opportunity to apply for a leadership and training grant towards the cost of this course.  Note that a minimum number is required for the course to run.

Leisure Walking Weekend

Do you fancy something a little more informal?

Come along and enjoy some beautiful countryside in the company of like-minded people.

It is a perfect opportunity to gain some further hill walking experience, to complete a Logbook walk or simply explore a new area and perhaps even enjoy a Devon cream tea!

The Leisure Walking weekend is run informally alongside the Level 2 courses and is open to members over 18.

The Weekend fee is £75 to cover food and accommodation.

 

All attendees must be over 18 yrs.   Closing date for bookings is 26 August 2022.

Full details including a kit list and directions to the venue will be sent out to applicants after the closing date.
