International Community Experience (ICE)

International Community Experience (ICE)

What is it?

Your ICE 2026/27 adventure begins with a residential weekend of community action and international experiences. We will explore what a community is and how you can help make a difference, no matter how small.

This will be achieved by taking part in a community project, such as environmental work on site at each of our locations. You will also learn about global issues and have lots of fun and meet new friends!

Who is it for?

Guides aged between 11 and 13 (11 by the 1 September 2026 and no older than 13 by 1 September 2027).

Where is is?

Cowley Adventure, Cowley, Cheltenham GL53 9NJ

How much does it cost?

£60 for the first weekend.  Additional costs apply for the follow up stages that will be advised during the weekend.

How many places are there?

We have spaces for 24 Guides on both weekends, places will be booked on a first come first served basis.

From the two selection weekends, 24 Guides will be selected to go onto the next stage of the project.

  • You need to advise your unit leader that you have applied to take part in this event.
  • You must be a member of Girlguiding to attend this opportunity including the international travel.
  • More information including consent form, health form and a kit list will be sent out after the closing date.

Please note your daughter can only attend this event once.

What happens next?

If you are selected to go onto the next stage, the journey continues at a pre-trip weekend taking place 12-14 February 2027 at Foxlease Park, SO43 7DE, where your friendships are strengthened and further community work is undertaken.

You will have the chance to take part in the planning of the final project that will take place overseas, deciding on the types of community project work you will do abroad, where you will visit and what you want to gain from the trip.

The ICE experience comes together at the final trip which will be during the Easter school holidays 2027. There, you will apply and develop your new skills through an extended community action project.

You will also get to explore the area you are visiting and look back on what you have achieved along the way and look forward to your Guiding future.
